Once upon a time, he
was to have played the lead roll in a film. However, before he could
conquer the silver screen, sketches of this droll cat started quite
some excitement in the world of print.
A cat-lover who was astounded at the similarity between the drawn
cat and her own domestic tiger, insisting "That's my Jacob!"
thus gave him his name, as well as bringing together Jacob's two
"fathers", the artist Sven
Hartmann and the writer Thomas
Haertner. |

For more than thirty years, the team
of Hartmann and Haertner have worked on and with Jacob, spreading
his stories in picture and text in five languages, in the form of
books, calendars (F.W.Heye
Verlag), and in magazines.
In his uniquely light-hearted and ironic manner, Jacob comments
upon all the daily events and experiences which happen to him and
his chum. The cartoons and comments bring a smile and often a hearty
laugh. The observer becomes aware of and is amused by his own shortcomings
and little weaknesses as pointed out by the sympathetic and lively
cat. In this way, Jacob provides his readers with a humourous little
philosophical "poke" along their way.
And even without words, Jacob is very appealing - just look at him
gracing T-shirts, mugs, umbrellas and all those other goodies in
our shop! His mischievous smile, with head resting on velvety paws
- you can't help wanting to take him into your arms and give him
a good cuddle! Which is no problem - he's available as a stuffed
toy (made in Japan, please have a look to Cosmo
Merchandising Co., Ltd) in all possible variations - even one
which goes "meow! meow!" These and other Jacob products
can be found in Jacob's Shop
